Nashville Cutaway pack and... how to waste time when it's raining.....

How does it feel over 10kg without the hip belt? I've found mine very comfortable (7-8kg). I only bought the 1 inch webbing hip belt for just in case.

I specced two elastic, but they sent me the standard two fixed and 1 elastic.
Then very quickly sent me the other elastic - good customer service.

I found them, ok. Not great. They said they would do a personal special request. It was only a tiny thing but it was agreed upon and they said they were more than happy to do it. They forgot. Problem is £7 for the strap and £16 for the shipping. I can't see anything else I'd like to get to make it worthwhile to be honest.

So...after around 700km and prob 25,000m up and down.....
This was in answer to a Q posed by @DesperadoDan about how I found the pack....

It worked really well - I was pleasantly surprised.
As a note: I was around 5kg base but probably carried 8-9kg most of the time and up to 13kg with heavy water carries.

Mine is EPLX. Nice stiffish fabric....and quite bright...

I initially thought that I would set the straps really wide....didn't feel comfy as I cold not 'centre' the weight well. Adjusted one loop in either side - 150km later - moved another loop in (about as narrow as it goes) this sat the load well for me.
Slight pack taper I liked - I used a folded 3mmx50cmx150cm evazote pad inside - 6 folds so 1.8cm padding, nice. Did not pre-mould folds as I thought it would be better to just let it 'take shape' - it was. Pad used under tent on top of polycryo (polycryo the only thing I put in the bottom stash as it was invariably damp) and used for morning/evening yoga/stretch routines.
I could get everything inside with three days food - just. Wraparound pocket great as accessible on the go - used micro-crabs on loop of this to secure some items inside with lanyards. Despite 'meeting' some seriously aggressive vegetation only a couple of minor abrasions (I am not that careful with kit).

Vest pockets - used top ones for inReach one side and Celtic salt (my electrolyte of choice) the other. Phone in right mid pocket on lanyard. Few bits in opposite one. Water in bottom pockets - it carries better with some load in the vest pockets so water weight works OK. Straps really comfy and very breathable with moisture retention very low, which is great. Jury rests re; chest straps - used 2 elastic one mid chest the other lower....not sure the lower one did that much......apart from keep my button compass handy?? The closures are a bit small if you are cold/wearing gloves.
Like all the straps they take a while (a long while) to loosen up and run well.

Hip belt - I used the beefier belt; worked well for load support with heavy carries (I commented on my packing style on the Nashville packing vid they put out recently). This said on long downs I disengage the belt and the pack still carries really well - I doubt I'll take the hip belt on 2-3 days trips in Scotland/places where water is easy to get). Hip belt pockets a bit small. Grip clip fastener on hip belt annoying as it precludes easy balancing; I'll swap it at some point.

Borrowed a friend's Nashville Cutaway and was very impressed.
Half the weight of a Durston Kakwa (400g in Ultra) and fits like a glove.
They do seem to have a stellar reputation in the US, but rarely talked about over here.
Only downers seem to be the high cost of importing one and deciding on the various sizing combos.
Great for the fastpacking & ul brigade.

You can occasionally find one on eBay. Very occasionally.

@edh @DesperadoDan are you both happy getting the 30l version or when you were on your travels was there a time you thought you wished you had plumped for the 40l, I'm guess it's all subjective really, as it's for me would be a worry all my ridiculous large and wide gear would actually squish in the 30l, and im right in thinking you would only need to get another pack on its own as the straps are changeable between different sizes?

Also we're either of you tempted to go with the Aluula Graflyte?

There's plenty of space in the 30l, I was surprised. I've seen videos of people who went for the 40 and found it was too big and bulky. Id say the point of the pack is fast and light. I've got a long wide quilt and mattress. I don't take a lot of spare clothes. I'm going out for a few days starting today and have only used it for a couple of days previously. I have three days of food and could easily fit more.
The straps are changeable, yes. The Aluula Graflyte I have on the Durston Wapta 30. That stuff is tough. The material feels weird, like a really heavy duty bin bag on steroids. I dragged that thing 600 miles all over England last year and a few days bushwhacking in Canada and it still looks new.
It's difficult to judge what size you need as I don't know your setup but the pack shouldn't really go over 13kg although I think @edh has had it over that because of long water carries.
I'll show you what I can get in mine. I'll post my Packwizard list. Its very comfortable so far. Sort of hugs you but it takes a fair bit of fiddling with to get it right. I'm still messing with different adjustments just to see how feels. It is extremely adjustable.

Also depending on the your back length you'll get more than the 30l internal. I've got the 18" and that's 34l internal and 10.5 on the outside. It's plenty.

Thanks @DesperadoDan I'm interested more than anything I have been reading the specs and the internal and total litre differences depending on pack size etc.

No worries. As you can see, 30l 18" 44.5. I'd say it's more like 43. You've got to be able to roll it at least twice. Should be three but if you get the accessories kit you get the side straps and and that gives you a bit more play. I cut the toggles off those and use a couple of mini carabiners, less faffing.

I forgot all about posting some of the packs I’ve made…

This one is basically the same as the Tempo but with a few tweaks here and there. Any good to you @edh ? £35 posted if so…

Slightly smaller version of the cutaway, this one in Ultra 100.

I was glad I didn't get the 40l. It was close. Too big and it's quite wide I gather.
