New setup disapointment

Afternoon all :)

I recently was excited to buy a second hand cuben Duomid and Ookworks inner from a another forum, even though I think the seller is known to some on here, no issues whatsoever with the transaction, all good there.

My disappointment is I don't thing myself or the GF is going to get on with it :( The whole set up is top notch its just the lack of space inside the Ookworks inner, think we both agree we need something with a bigger inner, perhaps a Strat 1. I've had four nights in it, one in the garden to get used to it and three on the hill, while it set up well, it became apparent that its a tight fit for me inside (5'10) which isn't that tall really, well I don't think so. The GF is 5'9 and she has had two nights in it, one in the garden and one on the hill. Maybe we are just used to having more space inside to lounge about. Of the course that would be one of us at a time :)

So what to do? decisions?

The Strat 1 is not that big an inner for two people - although the pole distribution and more generous sit-up height make it seem roomy; its lovely for one; the Strat 2 on the other hand.....

Some clueless gear-head might buy the Duomid :inlove:

It is for one of us at time ,not both in it together.

Oh; I see - then the Strat 1 is great...I was in mine Saturday night.

If you are in the NE you are welcome to a 'viewing'....

As @ColinHawke says the problem is the inner not the Duomid. Ive got a 3F inner which is comparable dimensions, at the end of the day its about 70-75cm wide where one wall slopes into the other, its not that roomy as a space. More a problem for someone like me who prefers to have all their gear in the inner (bar cone and shoes). The Duomid in itself is great, but I'm a bit disappointed at the space in the inner.

I would get rid of it, loads of tent options with good sized inners.

I'd imagine the weight difference between the Duo and inner and a Strat 1 won't be that much....150g?

I get by in my Solomid with a net inner.....and have spent 16 hours in it; but it is pretty much a 'get in last minute and sleep' shelter...given the choice..

It depends on where you want your 'generous space' - the inner or the vestibule.

My Luxe Hexpeak V4A with 3F inner (the Luxe inner, though roomier, is unacceptably heavy) gives enough room for one in the inner and a veritable palace under the outer. Not that much heavier than a Strat 1 (though I might get one of those next; liking the twin doors/vestibules), and £165 all in (new). Got to be one of the best 'budget' setups around imo.

Clambering over each other in a Duomid doesn't sound great, I think the Supermid looks a better option for two, much easier in and out

So it looks like we will be parting ways :( and trying a Stratospire 1 :) Looked at maybe a Khufu with 2/3 inner but the wait time and cost ruled it out.

So anyone want a Cuben Duomid and Ookworks inner? :)

Good plan

Apart from the condensation/non-stretch advantages of Cuben fibre, and sil canopy colour choice, for a 2 skin setup, I see no real use advantage of the Duomid over a Stratospire 1. The latter has far better useable space to weight ratio. and 2 doors/porches. Khufu is less head roomy than a Duomid due to cat cuts.

After using the Strat 2 for 2 full seasons, and seeing NEEPs strat 1, I keep wondering if I should have just bought one of those over the Notch. The 200g saving of the latter is moot if I don't feel like using it in the cooler seasons and choose heavier shelters anyhow (Scarp/Hex).

One of the other reasons for going to go with the Strat is that we know TT well not wanting to go through any other issues with a mid after waiting so long for one.

As said above the Duomid is only for one of us at a time...not two's up

Ah, I didn't quite follow what you were saying sorry

I've only used an inner in my Duomid a couple of times, I prefer to use a light bivvy bag instead if I can get away with it.

Sorry to hear that. Coincidentally thats why i got my SS1 in the first place, the Duomid's usable space with an inner around head and foot was too tight for me, cant stand having material draping on my feet or head due to low angles.

Duomid on its own would be great though
