Olympus Tough tg5 thoughts.

Seems to cover a lot of issues for me. Size, weight, price, especially resilience, raw function and four times optical zoom. Anyone able to compare the image quality to a smart phone?
Whenever I carry my phone on my shoulder strap it is in a zip loc so I don't bother to whip it out for pics most of the time.
Have a Pana 4/3s but just don't carry it. Would cost me about 220 squids. Ta G

I stumbled across this post today.
I've never used tg5, so this is guesswork. If you're willing to work with RAW files, I think you'll be able to get better quality images than from a smartphone due to the (real) zoom lens.
However, the sensor isn't bigger than an a good smartphone so if you only want to use the Jpegs I'd imagine that the greater processing power and recent improvement in software processing on a good smartphone will produce better Jpeg images.
If you'll use it more, it might be a good choice.

Just my thinking. If it was a tad smaller and cheaper I'd take a punt not having seen any raw pics from one. Searched high and low and don't want to be stuck with something that's just phone like.

There are some not-too-expensive smartphones with optical zoom lenses and decent sensors. Like the Huawei P30 Pro.

I have one and I really like it, but only really use it when I'm canoeing or in winter when I know I'll be wearing gloves without a reliable touchscreen pad that makes using my phone screen a PITA. It also means that my phone can be kept in a warm internal pocket rather than an easily accessible outside one.

While better than nothing, I don't find the "zoom" lenses on a smartphone as useful as a continuous zoom on a camera. Plus the telephoto lenses often use a smaller sensor with fewer megapixels than the main camera.
