Forgive my impatience if there's a notice or thread, I did a couple. Of searches first...

Are there any sections that only paid members can view?
I'm asking as I figure there should be...
Trip reports, sales, bargain alerts, promotions etc
Some areas we hike or camp would benifit from. Some privacy, as with sales and bargains... There's a lot more members just view than contribute and maybe in some instances it's counter productive?
It could also generate more contribution from members, more paid contribution for upkeep of this great place and also prevent bargains from disappearing too quickly like with the cotswold and snowy rock affair...
Same with eBay... A bargain or item of interest gets spotted and all of a sudden the prices go crackers....
Just my morning 2bob :pompus:

I am against anything that smacks of cliques.

(I think your recent purchasing travails have more to with getting suckered by non-existant clickbait offers than with fast fingered lurkers)
Just because you're paranoid. Don't mean they're not out to get you

I agree with gadget... to a point. It would be nice if there was some benefit other than the ability to sell stuff and upload pics. Orange names would be enough for me though :angelic: bargains and promos for paid members would be pretty cool too. We don't want to end up making people who contribute but don't pay feel isolated or pressured into paying but I couldn't care less about lurkers/members who don't post.

I'm a member who is regularly on here but rarely posts. I've learned a lot since joining and significantly lightened both my load and my bank balance as a result. I do however subscribe because given all I've got out of this place it's just the right thing to do.
I don't post much because many of you younger guys now outclass an old fella in what you do and indeed with what you know and nothing annoys me more than people posting for the sake of it with "+1, Me too" and the like just to be seen or to up their post counts. If I can't materially add to a thread or have little meaningful to say, I keep my trap shut and fingers off the keyboard. Does that make me a lesser member?
If people who lurk, gain from the place and don't subscribe, then I'd be for them being excluded from bargains and promos though.
As for being Tango'd.......Mmmmmm. :nailbiting:

An open forum avaialble to all brings more and more varied contributions. Some of those non-paying lurkers will be drawn into the conversations and may eventually become 'main memebers' Don't put up barriers to potential contributers.
I don't like cliques.

If I'm selling something I don't want my audience/buyership to be limited.
If I'm buying them it's the luck of the draw if I'm first/last to the bargain … I can live with that.

If there are a few 'perks' for paid up members then that's OK.

Ooh, one more post. Power mad.

Edit: Seriously, I get value from this site and realize it costs money. Glad to help support that.
A community is a group that interacts. Lurking is not interacting. Having a gazillion posts is meaningless. 90% of what gets posted is instantly forgettable or regrettable, at least. But that 10%...

The voice of reason..:angelic:

This is my other home www.charltonlife.com
it has a limited audience but far more members. It has a constant churn of posts, no contributions and is run from a spare bedroom.

But...it does have advertising :bag:

I'd second that....

Can only paid members vote ? :D
.
Paid members privileges should be but not limited too :
  1. Free delivery on all items bought in the "for sale" posts.
  2. A free meal ticket for a whole hearty full english breakfast at any cafe at the end of a outing.
  3. Secret handshake for meeting paid members so unpaid members feel excluded on meets.
  4. Written notice 2 weeks prior to any changes being made on or too the forum.
  5. 1 free item to the value of £20 every renewal date (like the trail magazine).
.
Failing that keep it as is.:D

It’s the people that post that give the forum its character and the more wide the net is cast the more varied the input, which is to everybody’s advantage.
