OK, so I'll kick off. Here's hoping it's not another snow year like the last one! I did SJPdP to Etsaut and it got a bit interesting mid June. Rotten, rotten snow. Ew! And the wettest June in umpteen years. So... not playing that game again and to avoid the crowds I'm looking at early September Etsaut to Luz-St-Sauveur with maybe a day wandering around Garvanie. Looking at doing some proper camping as opposed to Gite hopping, which is fun, but I need to try the real stuff in proper pointy bits.

Thinking (far, far(too far)) ahead, are there any issues with getting Coleman type gas in Lourdes?

So, what are you folks plans?

Not so far off the route / timing that we did this year..
    With variations of course.

    Lots of lovely flat pitches..

    Such as THIS
    Although @Clare reckons further witchcraft..

You can buy unbelievable quantities of tat in Lourdes..
Somewhere amongst all that, there will be gas..

I am giving myself the gift of time to write trip reports this hols.

Whether this will be of practical help, to anyone planning anything sensible, remains to be seen.

Will probs be rather heavy on kite, and cow pics..
    As per.

I didn’t like Gavarnie, very touristy and expensive. I know others on here have been much more forthright about their impressions of Gavarnie.
I think the supermarkets in Gourette close in September so don’t rely on getting food there so late in the season

The town of Gavarnie itself isn't so much cop, for food and resupply, but it's adequate.

However its location is spectacular, and exiting it via the Cirque is pretty good fun.

    Jumping on your thread....

Thinking about the Pyrenees again this summer...

    The jumping bit....

Lots of the same questions come up on Pyrenees threads; would merging them be a good idea?

And turn them all into a mega-monstrous consolidated thread ..?

Dominated by one over-arching super villain ?? :eeker:

Its all about grabbing power, and control, and hostile take-overs, on here isn't it .. :bear: :bear: :bear:

I was there about 15 years ago and have always wanted to go back and explore and see it properly for myself. Sorta bucket list type thang :)

    Mox.

    It's all about me.

Gavarnie is OK after 16.00ish... The route up the side of the Cirque is fun

Its got lots of good routes in and out too. :)

The thing is, if you've been out for a few days then any town with food, and a modicum of luxe* is welcome.

    * eg hot shower at campsite

Shhh. They’re in the 2018 Pyrenees thread :rolleyeses:

I agree with @edh. It would be good to re-use the old thread. Recycling. We all love it.

@Shewie - How about and intial post on this thread that links back to the "Pyrenees 2018" thread ??
    - would help in finding that thread rather than make this one into some vast unmanageable monster :rolleyes::rolleyes:

The refuge just above Gavarnie is nice. A mown lawn to pitch on right outside the door and a pleasant shortcut through the woods to get into town.

Haha i just knew I would get pitching criticism and raised eyebrows if I put up that picture. What can I say!?

It’s still a comfortable spot for @Mox ’s Gavarnie sojourn and he will probably not make the same egregious pitching errors.

    @Mox

As @Fair Weather Camper said, we walked between Etsaut and Luz this year over 2 weeks in late August and early September. (A mix of GR10 day 1, HRP 4 days , GR11 other Spanish Trails,GR11 again, then a quick hitch from Bielsa over to France, Then GR10c, GR10 back towards Luz. Fantastic country.
