Shelter News - a thread for new shelter talk

The cuben version at just under a grand looks like an even worse buy!

I'm obviously not Terra Nova's target audience, the only one of their tents I vaguely fancy is the Helm, and that's nearly 2Kg, why so heavy?

I think TN have kind of lost their way in recent years. A few decent good-value tents in their 'budget' Wild Country range, and some of their 'classics' can still hold their own, but imo several other brands now have them beaten on weight, price and innovation. At a trade fair last year I was able to have a conversation with one of TN's marketing representatives who was also involved in product development. I got the feeling that he wasn't that interested in looking at, and responding to, what others in the industry were doing. Maybe I'm wrong, I hope so anyway.

I like the way the main pole folds into the fly. They should really show it being erected after all the faff of the inner being attached etc has been done. Any subsequent pitches will be much faster.
I have a Nordisk Telemark 1 and it goes up in less than 5 mins.

I liked that aspect too, but I don't get why they used velcro loops to attach the fly to the pole, seems clumsy, heavy, and prone to failure. A loop of light cord or fabric would have been simpler.

Plus, in real life you'd need earplugs, it was flapping in the almost still conditions of the video, gok what it's like in real wind. An extra peg point on those long sides or some better shaping (cat cuts?) might help.

The Gatewood Cape is now claimed to be 15% lighter, not sure how as the website is still claiming its made of 30D silnylon. Also saying 40% smaller pack size.

Has anyone ever worn one of these in anger in the UK? ( In public:o o:?:p)

The new green colour is quite pleasing. If they brought out the Deschutes in that fabric, I'd find it hard to resist.

I like the innovation and would imagine it has some SUL uses, but not many uses in the UK.

It would be the first thing in my bag when the zombie apocalypse kicks off....

Yes but not again, I really like the GC as a shelter but it is a right faff as rain gear. And you do look utterly daft so luckily there are no pics of my escapade. :D

Ive used my Gatewood for shorter weekend trips in woodland areas. Matched with a wind jacket for lighter rain protection it actually works out pretty good. Small shelter tho

Quite like the Gatewood as a one person shelter but where can you buy a sold inner for it?
I’ve never seen a solid inner for it just the net inner. One of the ali inners may fit it with some jugggling, anyone tried?
