The drop has ended already. They only had 30 units on sale. Keep an eye out. They might come up again.

I already have the M90 side zipper bivy from Borah. Going to grab the eVent bivy from Borah or massdrop if they do one :)

Am I the only person to have qualms about massdrop?

I can't imagine cottage industry suppliers like borah make big money anyway so if people only buy though schemes like massdrop we may see them going out of business.

On the other hand they get to sell products to people who may not have bought anything from them if it wasn't for seeing an offer on massdrop. I didn't need a new bivi but when it came up on sale I wanted it

I presume that they still make a profit or they wouldn't offer the deal.

Hi @Jamess - it's important to nurture the good ones but I'm not so worried, no cottage supplier has to participate, it's up to Massdrop to talk to the company.

I'd be uncomfortable if I saw some unfair pressure being exerted on cottage businesses, if that happened I'd have no qualms about telling Massdrop: "not in my name and back-off" - right now Borah is a bigger brand for me than Massdrop!

Borah has done a couple (I think) of its own sale events each year. I think they've done a Black Friday Sale, can't remember - anyway recall they have offered really good discounts.

It does offer benefits to the cottage vendor too. They have less postage to pay, don't have to deal with individual customers, they get more exposure, they can buy materials in bigger quantities, the build process may be speeded up as they aren't swapping between builds, and they get the money for the goods in a lump sum I'd think.

All of the above + If you decrease margin and increase volume. Profit = same or more

Not at all. Firstly massdrop approach the vendor and negotiate a deal. They're under no obligation toagree to a bulk order.

Secondly, they may make less profit but they have a large single payment in one go to invest back in business.

I myself own a business and offer annual/advanced payments at a discount. I make less profit but have a cash injection to use for business or to play with ;)
