As someone who has spent all their life around guys wearing Scottish traditional kilts - go for it .
Just one observation - properly worn a kit should finish just above the knee - NOT BELOW. It looks pretty "sissie" if it "hangs lower" - like a guy is wearing a women skirt -
badly .
So the moral of the story is - guys - don't be afraid to show your knees :D.

Oh @cathyjc let's not get all prescriptive about how the guys should wear their skirts... After all, we don't like it done to us..:angelic:

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of a glimpse of a well turned calf  but let's not put them off with disheartening remarks before they've even started :geek:

Have you ever seen a guy in a droopy Kilt hanging doon around his calfs ??? ….. looks right daft.:(:vomit:
Just thought the 'tip' might help the guys choose wisely. :angelic:
Anyhoos - it was all about "airy" undercarriages so long skirts probably not in consideration :D

I've seen all sorts of guys, in all sorts of get up @cathyjc..:)

I'd prefer everyone to feel comfortable, in any length of skurt, or none :angelic:

Judge not, lest ye be judged, etc etc

A wrap/lungi/sarong seems a nice idea in hot places. I suppose pleats of a kilt help with mobility? A more wrap like design would have to be reasonably short to not impede walking (or foot visibility) on rough ground or difficult climbs and descents?

How much of a hassle are skirts on windy ridges?

If there are scrambles / awkward ascents descents then I'll swap back to shorts..

Or gym knickers

For handstands, ill tuck my skirt into my knickers.. We all learnt that one in the playground :angelic:

I think skirts are really nice for hot weather walking, so long as its not too gymnastically
taxing, but of course they have their limitations.

Like a rain skirt on a descent, in blustery weather, it can make it harder to see where your feet go.

It's just a case of choosing your tools wisely.

I did. Not sure I'd recommend twirling barbed wire round your genitals as hiking clothing mind.
That said I've not tried it so who knows!

Yes, especially as we've only really met, just the once @Enzo .

In the name of propriety, at least, I'll thank you to keep all fencing materials, well clear of my nether regions thank you :pompus:

This my version of a skirt.

There is not much privacy but I walk 95% of the year in shorts and these give the ventilation of a skirt but for me, stop me getting chafed which a kilt/skirt will not unfortunately. These are for a shorts wearer, about the best you can wear. The Lightheartgeat skirt also has a button to convert it to shorts when cartwheeling or sitting.

Phew, glad it's not just me that goes in for cartwheels - given a decent stretch of turf, or sand... Fun isn't it?? :)

You can convert any skirt for modesty / cycling, or whatever purpose, by capturing both layers of fabric with a coin or small pebble at the back, wrapped with elastic band or cord at the front.

Hate to be exclusionary, but the barbed wire thing seemed to be popular only with the males, females seemed to prefer Venice style masks.
Back to skirts perhaps.

I love my utilikilt for wear around the farm, although it’s heavy it stand up to wear better than lighter materials.

For hiking I’ve often taken a lightweight cotton sarong as a general purpose blanket/towel/skirt etc, a habit I got into living in the Far East.

I’m looking at making one out of lighter polycotton or similar material that can work as a mat cover now I’ve switched to a quilt and want something nicer to sleep on than the plastic surface of the xtherm

That's what @Clare and I are proposing too.

An elasticated or draw cord hem, shouldn't be too tricky to manufacture.

Maybe a crosswise tape or two underneath to keep it in place.
There's no shortage of fabric choices out there, or maybe repurpose some thing already available.

At this rate there will be much diaphanous wafting about the hills by the summer time
