The "what have you made today" thread

Thought there might be room for a thread for stuff you've made that doesn't warrant its' own thread, but your ego needs you to show it off somewhere.
To start it off, here's a hoop frame I made for my frameless Granite Gear Virga 2
5mm carbon tubes, 3mm fibreglass rod and a bit of webbing, only adds 25g to the pack.2016-01-19 22.26.36.jpg 2016-01-19 22.28.12.jpg 2016-01-19 22.31.41.jpg 2016-01-19 22.38.24.jpg

No photo - but todays 'make' was a powerstretch top for my daughter for inside her Drysuit (Chrissy pressie).
Needs to have a crew/lowish neckline and most fleecy tops don't come that way.
:)

Well today a friend came round, and she had bought a present for her nephew, on the box it was a big kind of poles and hubs to make various shaped dens covered in a fabric. Quite cool, but when she wrapped it up it was only the poles and in small writing said you have to provide your own cover bit cheeky.

So we whipped up a quick arctic camo, light weight ripstop polyester cover, hemmed edges, tie outs and a stuff bag. Saved the day, her nephew loves it.

i saw thoes triangle pockets on the youtube sewing channels, i like them but cant think what it could be used for compared to a box bag?

Maybe good for money, keys and stuff? Will make a few and see, kids might love them :)

My first play with Cuben. A pole bag for my Scarp1.

1.0oz black cuben, sewn at the sides with taped reinforcement top and bottom. Grosgrain pull tabs, Velcro closure, bit of orange shock cord and mitten hook to stop me losing it.

Dimensions when empty.. 520mm x 65mm. You could probably shorten it by 20mm if you wanted

I think you had better all sit down before reading this post, but it is what i made today, a heavyweight 44g wallet.

A new experience for me, some groups like retro gear so i started playing with olive 12oz (yes i did say 12oz) heavily waxed waterproof canvas, its more like leather or board than a fabric lol. You have to use a hammer to fold the seams.

But came up with this wallet :)

How easy was that, Matt?
I've thought of doing the same, but the cost of the grips when shipping is added has always put me off.

Really easy William,

I made a slit along the length of the original grips and was able to peal them off in one piece, they only left a very small amount of residue on the pole.

The mechanisms for the straps are unlike any I've seen before though:

LGM1.JPG LGM.JPG

There's an exposed screw pointing upwards towards the top of the pole. The mechanisms twisted out easily enough, I wanted some sort of bung for the end of the pole so sawed the bottom end off the mechanism and gorilla glued it inside the end of the pole.

The GG grips internal diameter is smaller than the LG poles but this didn't seem to be a problem, I just sprayed a load of hairspray inside the grips and on to the end of the pole and then quickly twisted the grip in to place.

If I hadn't messed around making the bung it'd have taken less than 10 minutes to swap them over.
