What have you bought?

I have been using these for years from when they were only £10 a pair. I generally need XL size gloves . The XL/2XL size fit over Buffalo mitts size XL no problem.

They have stayed waterproof for a couple of seasons but after that they're more like showerproof. I still use the original pair but they aren't fully waterproof anymore. Bought a new pair in November but haven't used them.

They are much lighter than the terranova tuff bags which I also have. I didn't find the latter super waterproof for more than a couple of years either.
I have large hands that feel the cold. My old winter overmitts died, the tapes shredded. Ended up buying some new British army ones. They're huge! The small size almost sufficed. Very long, too, so my wife shortened the cuffs by several inches. They're tough, with grippy stuff where needed. Quite impressed with them.

I’m out for the next few days in some pretty wet weather, going to give this a go to see whether it helps with managing moisture and should also stop any draught from entering the quilt 🤞

interesting, i have british gtx surplus mitts (dpm camo), they barely fit, definetly dont fit over anything but thin gloves inside. L size, max XL irrc.

I plan to use my Hunka XL for this kind of thing but I’m interested to know how you get on with it.

I looked at the DPM versions, decided they were too big, but rnded up with same in multicam. I thonk they're the same design. I'm quite impressed so far - not too heavy or bulky. They're for winter use, and are carried in a pocket of my ME Lhotse jacket.

After several years of should I / shouldn't I, finally got myself a Stratospire 1 (not Li/Ultra). Think it will be good once I've dealt with the issues it ships with - apex guylines are so short they only serve a decorative function / useless tiebacks on the inner (why put toggles on the outer and not the inner too ?!??) / non-pitchlock corner tieouts need a bit of cord on them. Nothing new or unexpected there, but I do wish Henry wasn't so stingy with cordage.

I put mine up for the first time a few days ago, it’s taken a couple of goes for it to look like a tent…View attachment 53692
Great tent

Looks like you could do with the poles a bit taller, and make the pitchlocks nearer towards vertical ( by lengthening the guys especially the low part). That would take the wrinkles out and reduce the curves out of the lower part of the seams, and get good separation of the inner from outer.

Brooks cascadia 17’s for walking in with waterproof socks. Never used them but my usual walking footwear been finished now the Columbia trans alps. Anyone used these Brooks ones? Got these Columbia ones as the sole is the same as the trans alp(best I have used tbh too) https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/men's-hiking-boots-columbia-redbud-transalp/_/R-p-X8822006
but will wait till Brooks arrive & wear in house to compare. I run in hoka speedgoat 5’s & may try a 2E fit to walk in if the Brooks don’t feel good. I hate having to look for different footwear when companies discontinue it’s the hardest thing to get right. Ta for any info

The Cascadia 16's have been brilliant. I've had plenty of use out of them and they are still in pretty good condition.

I'm normally size 10 but went up half a size. They fit perfectly.

I bought another pair (half price) for whenever the first pair expire.

Have been really happy with my Cascadia 16s too and seem to be lasting well. I sized in usually size and fit me well (I like wide toebox). Keeping an eye out for a cheap backup pair.

I've had many pairs of Cascadias (like 20+); now using 16s.
For me quality has done a real nose dive after the 13s and materials are not as robust.
They still fit me well, just fall apart faster. I generally go through 2-3 pair in a year.

I tried the Cascadia 12's which had great reviews - comfy, but I found the grip awful on wet rock and mud. The toe bumpers came away after a week of use and I had to patch them up twice, albeit on a particularly rough section of the HRP. (I discovered the Spanish for contact adhesive is contacto - which is just brilliant.) Concerning that they are even less robust nowadays.

Did you ever contact Brooks ref you buying loads of em & the fact the later models are not lasting? Do you hammer em though?
So many footwear options now it’s a ball ache & a minefield finding new ones after being happy wi previous ones for years. Plus your options are really only mail order as not many shops locally that stock a good variety to try on.

I wear them in whatever terrain there happens to be 🤷🏼‍♂️.
I doubt Brooks would care, having make their manufacturing decisions....
