Just noticed that the ultra jacket in the sale is 900 fill instead of the usual 1000 fill. Cumulus looking more appealing if I can get my head around which size due to their fitted slim fit ( great for warmth if get the size correct)
How much coverage of the face do you get with a PHD ultra hood? From some pics I've found it looks like it stops just under the chin and doesn't add any height to the collar
174g 1000+ FP white goose down $64 delivered to UK. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000385061000.html No hood though.
Naturehike Ultralight 150g 1000+ FP white goose down $46.80 delivered to UK https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000390973555.html
There is vest based on that jacket: Naturehike Ultralight 123g 1000+ FP white goose down - 43g https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000383390928.html
Much as I like a bargain, I will take that 1000 CUIN claim with a spade of salt until it is verified by someone who own this and a 1000 FP jackect from the likes of PHD or Montbell.
It's a proper Montbell rip off that one. The 174g is the weight of the jacket, the fill weight is less than 80g. Not a winter jacket. My understanding was 1000FP is incredibly difficult to get hold of, especially in production line volumes, agree it's unlikely to be true.
I've had Naturehike things and have been very happy with the quality. I'm more inclined to believe this claim from them than from other Chinese outdoors manufacturers. I've seen that vest at $42 delivered. You're not going to go far wrong at £32.50 (today's $/£ conversion). Or a 174g jacket for £50.
I agree, i think it will be decent quality and you cannot complain at that price. But it won't be 1000 fp for whatever difference thats going to make. The sales literature is just a copy of the Plasma.
I have an original Montane Anti-Freeze jacket with 170g of 750+ Ukrainian goose down, in perfect condition so can't justify another even at £50. Or at least my wife would think I've gone off my rocker. The vest on the other hand mmmmmmmm!
I agree as well. If I need something for general 3 season use I'd go for Cumulus or something better, but if I'd want insulation for summer only that vest (+ fleece & winshirt) is nice value proposition. Don't invest to much cause you won't use it to much. ..keep telling myself I think we should talk winter jackets though
I still can’t decide on the damn trousers. I want the cheap price from the Chinese ducks but don’t know if I can love with myself. Might still have to get the cumulus offering to maintain my wavering moral compass
I've never ordered from AliExpress/Naturehike before. I've ordered the vest, more out of curiosity, but, I can't go far wrong for the price ............
I'll be very interested to read what you think about it. I would have ordered one myself but I've been reminded that someone has put an OMM Rotor vest away for me for Christmas. Still two vests are better than one.
It was, partly, Balagan's comment that prompted my purchase: I have a PHD Waferlite Vest - 1000 fp ( bought in their Sale a few years ago). It will be interesting to compare how they feel. I'm not expecting much, but, then I'm not paying much either.
The comparison will be interesting. I'm pretty sure the Naturehike jacket is a decent product. I'm just not completely sold on the 1000 CUIN hype.
Just remembered this question and I've put on my PHD Yukon jacket I got as a present earlier this year. I've also checked the lighter Summerline jacket. Both hoods wrap under the chin so your full face is open, maybe a cm or so is added to the collar height.
Thanks for the info. A little dissapointing as I normally like hunkering down with the collar almost to my nose, but I'll see how it is when my ultra arrives.
After ages, it arrived today. Seems to be well constructed. There's no collar, but it does have a draw cord hem, two hand-warmer pockets and a full front zip and plastic press fastenings. It's a YKK zip and seems OK. Weighs in at 145 grms for a Large, which fits me well (40" chest) - room for a light fleece etc. It is a bit on the short side compared to a PHD Vest. The material is a bit shiny, but not too much. The filling seems OK and is held in roughly 15 x 15 cms squares - it feels fairly plump. It's not really possible to say if the filling is 1000 CUIN but I think it's OK for the price I paid - just shy of £37 delivered. No photos, but, the description/photos for the Vest gave a fair idea of what I expected/received.
