And here is an other on from earlier this year - there seems little consistency and £66 seems excessive and unlucky given others' experience.
Charges due
Customs Entry £ 8.50
Import Duty £ 4.15
Import VAT £ 31.63
Total £ 44.28

Mine was £44.28 too

Me too on the first drop

Is there an appeal process? It’s a bit harsh paying almost double
There is a form to ask for a refund if you think you've been overcharged.

Keep in mind that import duty is based on price+shipping and VAT on price+shipping+import duty. Exchange rate variation plus variations in duty category (e.g. sticker says "tent" but clerk may apply rate for synthetic or non-synthetic tents which differ) can lead to very different amounts.

After spending a draughty night up on Macdui (20 - 30 mph) with the X-mid nailed tight to the ground I decided it was time to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon putting in a 40cm high end wall to the nest, it's added about 7g (used 15 D nylon from Aliexpress <30g/m2). Still undecided whether to put another wall in between the corner & the door seam, will probably add another 5g, thought I'd see how the mod worked out first.
Will probably not bother doing the other end as since I carry the nest separate 99% of the time I can easily choose which end I want the draft excluder.

Having spend the last 2 nights out in x-mid on the WHW I was thinking of doing the same . Could you bond material any other way as if never sewn anything like that before

Just for everyone’s information, I’m getting someone to make me a removable draught screen for my X-Mid. It will be heavier. If it works, they might start producing them for sale. I’ll let you all know when I get it and post a few photos. I’m keeping the maker secret at the moment in case it doesn’t come off.

Interesting... contradicts previous assertions (cant remember who) that the flush pitch of the fly negates the need for solid walls.

Im definitely waiting for the solid inner version.

Quite fancy that all the way round tbh, looks a good job

Both nights I had to pitch in uneven ground ,not much wind just a few gusts through the night .

Not as easy a job as I first thought;
1/ made a wooden former same shape as the end to get everything taught,
2/ hemmed the wall panel top & bottom
3/ machine stitched the bottom seam in place
4/ re-erected nest, pinned top seam then machine stitched,
5/ re-erected then cut the panel to fit cat curves, pinned in place.
6/ tried machine stitching the vertical seams but gave up after a couple of attempts; having to put tension on the mesh & awkward access
7/ re-erected then hand stitched vertical seams

Interesting... contradicts previous assertions (cant remember who) that the flush pitch of the fly negates the need for solid walls. Im definitely waiting for the solid inner version.
It was pretty windy & the pitch dictated sleeping head into the wind, otherwise it wouldn't have been an issue.
I do quite like the mesh walls makes for good star gazing while in bed.

I bought a load from AliEx, haven't seen them in a while but if I can find them you are welcome to one.

How do they fit in; I've seen the TT ones but could not really work it out?
It's just a fabric cup with a cinch around the neck (TT use velco, I used 12mm webbing with a buckle) & a lace coming off the top.
If I remember correctly I made the cup nominally 5cm dia * 3 cm high.

Simple, just take the 2 laces pass it up through the eyelet then take them around either side of the tape & tie off snug with a reef knot.
The actual connection doesn't take any appreciable load so nothing fancy is needed.
Thanks. You'd leave them attached?
Also toying with the idea of sewing a couple of buttons onto the seams and attaching a wee curtain about the size of your panel or what about some plastic removable bulldog clips to hold it on? I'd be too scared to attempt your high level of craft.

@dandurston - Any idea if/when a solid may be available ?

I'm quite "desperate" to get an X-mid but know that without the solid inner ( part mesh door panels ) it's just not going to work for me :(.

This years camping has confirmed that mesh inners just don't work for me;-
Windy - I need the draft free space.
Not windy - then I don't want condensation dripping thru' the roof.
Midges - it's much easier to "squish" them against fabric than a mesh surface.
Mosquitos - I've watched them push their proboscis thru' mesh and any bare skin is vunerable.

Buying a mesh version and building a solid inner looks a bit complicated. :banghead:

Please, please, please can you get Drop to see sense o_O.
