I am wanting to source a 30 x 30 cm square of fire resistant lightweight cloth/material to go under a small alcohol stove. Suggestions appreciated?

Why not get a titanium or stainless steel (food) plate? Then you can easily move it if you need to, use it as a plate, a chopping board, a mini table etc. Doesn't weigh that much either.

What do you want it to do? Aluminium duct tape (the metal one, not the duct tape we normally talk about on outdoor forums) will make almost anything resistant to an alcohol stove IME. For example, I've used it on 3mm CCF to put under an alcohol stove.

A piece of tinfoil folded over I have been using for 6 months. Easily replaced too.

Brazing/soldering mat?

Why so big Craig?

I use a little 50x50mm piece of pie tin under mine, more as a reflector than protector though

I use a circle of the foil bubble wrap material people use for making a pot cozy, and lay an additional sheet of folded aluminium foil over the top to protect from melting. Actually I'm not at all sure the additional foil is needed. The bubble material is light and forms a nice stable base for a stove / cone.

I've used foil bubble wrap on it's own and found that heat collapsed it. A layer of aluminium tape solved the problem.

Heatshield for a exhaust off a fighter jet.
60cm x 25 weighs 120g so if you want a piece cutting and posting let me know.
**No jets were sabotaged in the process of acquiring it** :D:rolleyeses:

Problem with that is when your fuel (de-natured alcohol) spills onto the plate you will later be eating from - ruins dinner :bag:.

@cathyjc Not had that problem, a wipe would sort that easy.
I found I missed having something to eat off and prep food on, as well as needing a base for the burner, for me this works really well. My plate is stainless steel so not exactly light but you can obviously get titanium as well.

@WilliamC Does the tape do a good job of keeping the heat off the correx?
(I have one in me wish list now, in fact its the only thing in my wish list since my laptop had to be reset last week)
